This is a Natural History Museum proposal, but specifically at the seasonal Butterfly exhibit on the exterior of the museum. After, he surprised her with friends and family at the USC Rose Garden. Then we went back into the museum for a quick engagement photography session (and how much fresher does it get than right after the proposal).
Natural History Museum Proposal in the Butterfly Pavilion Exhibit
I got there early like I do for every proposal, and was able to sneak into the tour before my couple arrived. The staff was understanding and helpful, but this is where you want to pick a photographer that uses experience and kindness to make sure things work out. As she walked under the arch, I was already in position to catch her genuine reaction.

I love the moments right after, where a flood of emotions are hitting my newly engaged couple. And yes there are people in the background that could be cloned or AI’d out, but we prefer to show the reality of the moment. We keep it real.

And of course here it the ring/bling that he proposed with.

Oh, and one thing to keep in mind is that we are absolutely surrounded by beautiful butterflies fluttering around us during this magical moment. The butterfly exhibit is a seasonal event that runs from March to August, since the butterflies need warm weather to thrive (the exhibit is outside of the Natural History Museum).

To the Exposition Rose Park Garden (next to USC)
The Exposition Rose Park, also colloquially known as the USC Rose Garden due to proximity, was were family and friends were waiting to congratulate the newly engaged couple.

Yeah, her reaction was priceless and amazing.

We can see the Natural History Museum in the background of the Expo Center Rose Park, which is part of LA Parks and Recreation.

There’s also a beautiful water fountain in the middle of the Rose Garden.

Engagement Photos at the Natural History Museum
After the rose garden surprise, we wandered into the Natural History Museum for engagement photography, which is awesome with a freshly engaged couple that are still glowing from their proposal.

And here’s our newly engaged couple with a T-Rex and a Triceratops.

And of course it’s always fun to do the T-Rex arms for a silly photo.

Southern California Proposal and Engagement Photography
This engagement photography session shows a proposal at the beginning, followed by photos of friends and family surprise congratulating them (like a small event), and then ended with a quick couples portrait session in the Natural History Museum. The Butterfly Pavilion exhibit was a meaningful and beautiful spot for our couple’s engagement proposal. Make sure to check out many more articles on our blog showing proposal photography and more in Southern California and Los Angeles.
