Jennifer & Sang — Engaged!!!

September 28, 2009

I had such a great time hanging out with Jennifer and Sang today!

I first met Sang about a year ago at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (in Beverly Hills); where we both worked  in the pharmacy department!  At the time, I was on wait-list for pharmacy school and was interested in learning about various pain killers and their mechanisms.  I recall my first conversation with Sang (pharmacist) was him trying to explain the differences between Morphine IR and Morphine SR to me.  After chatting for a while, we somehow went from medicine to camera (waaaaay more interesting subject!!) I found out that Sang is interested in photography and has a Canon 40D with a 24-70 f/2.8 lens.  That’s one of my favorite lens to use during a wedding!

I was super excited when Sang call us up to tell us he and Jen decided to go with us as their wedding photographers!  I am sooooooo looking forward to photographing their wedding in November at Rancho Los Lomas in Silverado Canyon (next to Rancho Santa Margarita or RSM).

For their engagement session, Jen was looking for a location with lots of trees and very wood-like!  The first location that popped into my mind was Rancho Capistrano!!  It is quite common for couples to be a little stiff and uncomfortable, but nothing my corny little jokes and a little alcohol can’t fix! =)  For their engagement session, Gavin and I brought along a flask of Vodka infused Strawberries and Pineapples for about 4 days.  Gavin had learned to make this combo when we were at a bar at the Huntington Hyatt for another engagement session.

Here are some of my favorites from the beginning of the shoot

I love the lighting in the next two pictures!  I love shooting into the sun to create highlights and really cool solar flares!

I love the dreamy look in this picture!!

It’s really cool hanging out with a co-work outside of work!  I learned so much about Jen and Sang as a couple.  BTW – these two have been together for about 14 years!!!

We all thought it was pretty interesting (weird to be exact) that there was a dry-looking flower plant growing in the middle of nowhere!  No really… there was a flower plant sitting in the middle of all the dry tall grass at Rancho Capistrano!

This is one of my favorite pictures…

After Rancho Capistrano, we headed over to Table Rock in Laguna Beach for a beautiful sunset!

This is just sooooo romantic!!

As the sun was beginning to set, I was super stoked to capture the following…

Was the water really that cold guys?!?!?  LOL … sorry!!

js-blog-018

Check out this last image taken by Gavin (while I was holding the light and acting as a human light stand). AWESOME!!!

js-blog-019

Of course… we had to do it too!!!  I handed Jen the flash and Gavin prep the camera settings for Sang.  I LOVE it!!!  LOL…

js-blog-020

Thank you Jen and Sang for a wonderful time!  I had so much fun hanging out with you both!  I can’t wait to shoot your big day!!!

Takako and John got in contact with me literally two weeks prior their wedding.  Their special request was that they only wanted details and candid pictures!  With a photo journalistic background, that request was right down my alley!

Their wedding was spread over two days.  The first one was a small and intimate backyard ceremony in Huntington Beach (next to Trinidad Island).  Their house is right on the water and has an awesome view of the marina.  Check out their family boats!!

Takako and John had a unique wedding indeed!!!  The officiant was Takako’s sister.  Now, you may wonder… what’s so unique about that?  Well… she was dressed up as a LOBSTER.

jp-tj-blog-039

And here’s her adorable side-kick!

jp-tj-blog-008

Their wedding ceremony was literally about 5 minutes long.  It was comprised of an “I do”… a ring exchange… and the first kiss!  Simple and romantic!

After the formal session, we stepped down to the dock for a few quick pics.

BTW – Takako’s mom made her dress!

For dinner, Tacos and Sushi…

I had a few bites and I swear… the Toro was to die for! My mouth waters just thinking about it…

Their Reception took place on Saturday, Sept 26th at the Union Station in Los Angeles.  Again, they specifically requested to have only candids and details.

I want to thank Danny (of Danny N Photography) for coming as my second.

For dinner, Lawry’s!!!  So for the word pun… Lawry’s and Lobster… hehehe… get it??!?!   ok ok… I’ll have to admit, that was a pretty lame joke!

The caterer was Lawry’s Prime Rib.  They brought out the whole sha-bang…  The cart was going from table to table serving each guests!

jp-tj-blog-024

Bone in Prime Rib… yummy!!!  Oh… and for those who don’t know me; I am a total carnivore! =)

Takako and John did not just have one cake, but instead they had 12 cakes!  I’ve always been a BIG fan of cheese cakes, but the coconut flavored one really swept me away!

Hi Everyone!

Exciting news!!!  Not long after doing Denise and Dennis’s wedding in August, Susie Chhuor Professional Hair & Make up Team (Denise’s Make up and Hair Stylist) contacted me with the happy news that Heather,  the coordinator of LA Style Unveiled would like to feature me as a photographer on their website!  At LAStyleUnveiled.com couples can find vendors as well as many helpful tips on planning for a wedding.  I am stoked to be “published” on such a website!  You can check out the article on my photography at the link below:

I had the great pleasure of photographing Tiffanie and Greg’s wedding today at Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica.  Casa Del Mar is indeed a “Hotel By The Sea”.  This beautiful and extravagant beach-front hotel is located just steps away from the Santa Monica Pier.  As soon as I set foot into the hotel, I was couldn’t stop smiling! There were soooooo many photo opportunities.  Thanks to Tiffanie’s awesome timeline, I had some time to take her around Casa Del Mar’s hotel lobby for photos before their ceremony!  I had so many pictures of her that it was difficult for me to select which ones go onto the blog. =)

Here are some of my favorites during the preparation:

Check out the Lobby!  Gotta love the stairs… symmetry is always great for photos!

The way the stairs curve and the yellow adds so much to the image!

jp-tg-013

Our lovely bride was running just a tad late to the ceremony.  While waiting for her ride to show up, she joking decided to stuck out her thumb to hitchhiked and a cab pulled up.  LOL…  I couldn’t help but to snap a quick photo.

jp-tg-014

I really really love the  following two pictures!

jp-tg-015

jp-tg-017

Tiffanie wrote and read her own vows.  I got somewhat emotional when she started crying and said, “I don’t know if I could finish reading this…”  The Priest joking replied…” Don’t worry, I can finish it for you!”  It’s always a pleasure when the Priest is light hearted and funny.

jp-tg-020

And here’s their happy family!  Tiffanie and Greg asked to have their “babies” be brought to the Casa Del Mar hotel for some quick photos.  This is tooooo adorable!

jp-tg-022

After the ceremony, we had plenty of time to go around the hotel for couple pictures.

Having a wedding at Casa Del Mar means you HAVE to go out to the beach and get sand in your feet!  Tiffanie and Greg is no exception! =)

Check out Santa Monica Pier in the back ground.

jp-tg-029

I was stoke to capture this moment when Tiff was cracking up hard over a joke that Gavin told!

jp-tg-031

This is Tiff … all tangled up in her veil due to summer breezes.

They had a live band of 14 members play all night long at the reception.  This has got to be the BEST live band that I’ve ever heard!!  I can’t even describe how awesome they were… everything was so lively and upbeat!

jp-tg-038

The conga line originally started with just four or five little girls going around the dance floor and eventually lead to a huge line.

“Come on, shake you body baby, do the conga…”

Wow… that was a fantastic wedding!  I had so much fun hanging out and working with you both!  Thank you so much…

Hope you both have a wonderful honeymoon!!  Enjoy VinPearl Resort and Spa in Nha Trang, Vietnam!

Mae & Pat — Engaged!

September 2, 2009

I met with Mae and Pat a couple months ago and the moment we started talking, we clicked immediately!  Mae and Pat is such a cool couple… they are always down and ready to try anything.  These two are so silly for each other that I couldn’t stop laughing with them.  For their engagement session, they wanted to go to Hilltop Park in Signal Hills.  This is a very special place for Mae and Pat because it’s where they went on their first date.  Isn’t that such a cute idea?  Gavin and I are probably gonna do the same thing, we’ll celebrate our 5 years of dating anniversary (which is coming up on 9/11/09) as we relive our first date by going to The Sticking Rose in Beverly Hills and then over to Santa Monica Pier!

We started the engagement shoot around 5:00pm and so the sun was still very bright out.  I really love these silhouette pictures of Mae and Pat.
